Addressing mediapersons at the Sanmelan office here this afternoon, president Balendra Bharali and general secretary Basanta Das informed that a tentative budget of Rs 8 lakh has been estimated for the purpose.
A variety of cultural programmes including those of some neighbouring States – Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram – besides ethnic traditional items like Karbi dance, Jhumur, Bodo dance, Tiwa dance etc have been chalked out for the four-day celebrations, in addition to the Bihu dances, songs and other items.
The programmes start at 7 am on Friday. The day’s other items include inaugural function, Hussori, felicitation to HSLC toppers, Bhortal and Gayan-Bayan; Karbi dance, tribute to Keshab Mahanta, Rudra Barua and Nava Kanta Barua; children’s programme, Jhumur among others.
Other attractions include songs by Bornali Kalita (April 15); Krishnamoni Nath (April 16)’ Krishnamoni Chutia and flautist Dipak Sarma (April 17). Troupes from East Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata and Pushpanjali Cultural Organization, Silchar have also confirmed their participation, they said. Chief patron Jagat Prasad Baruah also addressed the press meet. Baruah said, scientist Jayanti Chutia will be felicitated by the Sanmilan on April 16. NRI Assamese Bihu enthusiast Kamal Hazarika will also be felicitated on the occasion, officials said.
Cultural secretary Utpal Rajkhowa informed that those groups coming from neighbouring States are all original troupes based in their respective States. Rajkhowa also said that arrangements have been made with NE hifi TV for live telecast of all the cultural programmes on April 15, 16 and 17, adding, ‘there are attractions galore in our Bihutoli this time.’
